The National Water Mission (NWM) is a pivotal initiative of the Government of India, launched under the 'National Action Plan on Climate Change' with the aim of promoting sustainable water management across the country. The primary objectives of this initiative are water conservation, the prevention of water wastage, and ensuring the equitable and adequate distribution of water resources for all. It places special emphasis on enhancing water-use efficiency, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and water recycling. Furthermore, the Mission works to raise public awareness regarding the importance of water conservation and assists states in developing advanced water management systems to address the challenges posed by water scarcity and climate change.
