NIT Patna is the 18th National Institute of Technology established in 2004 by the Department of H.R.D. Government of India after rechristening the former Bihar College of Engineering Patna. With the establishment of the pleaders’ survey training school, which was subsequently promoted by Bihar College of Engineering Patna in 1924, NIT Patna marked its humble start in 1886. This made the National Institute of Technology, Patna India’s 6th oldest engineering institute. Later, in 1978, the graduate-level programme was elevated to the postgraduate level. The National Institute of Technology, Patna is located behind Gandhi Ghat, one of Patna’s most famous and reverential locations, on the south bank of the holy river Ganges.
